Infrared photography started favorite of photographers and opened a new visual dimension, a somewhat 'different' way of viewing the world in our environment. Infrared photography has a light spectrum is much broader than what the human eye can catch, and, until the CCD sensor to be affordable to the general public, the only way to capture infrared radiation is to use a special film, is sensitive to the part of the spectrum. Many applications of infrared photography, from criminology to photomicrography and sky photography. We can study it for infrared photography is very interesting. The result is different from ordinary digital photos.

Short History of Infrared Photography

History of Infrared Photography, Infrared Photography
In the past, where infrared images are often hand painted to give a "quasi-natural colors." Here is an excerpt from the "Leica Manual" by Morgan and Lester (1943): "a very interesting application of infra-red to landscape photography is to enlarge the photo and enlarged tones of blue. If properly organized and fast image will show a white cloud against blue sky, white trees and grass, and various gray to buildings and roads. The addition of oil coloring of trees and grass and other parts of the image will produce a good imitation of a startling natural color. "

The Advantages of Infrared Photography Features

Infrared Photography Features, Infrared Photography Tips
There is one interesting feature of infrared photography for its ability to penetrate the fog of smoke and light. If not impossible infrared can do it. You should know the infrared radiation has a wavelength longer than visible light and can 'go through the mist more easily. This was, unfortunately, more and more important as the level of pollution in the air increases. Some even go so far as theorized that the 'moderate' monochrome infrared photography can become the de facto standard in the landscape of black and white photography, such as finding dry completely and clearly increasingly difficult.

What to Shoot in Infrared?

The subject most rewarding to shoot in the infrared are sunny outdoor scenes, especially with a lot of leaves, grass and water, preferably with some Nice, white clouds in the sky. Morning and evening sunlight is richer in infrared than noon one, the light effect in the Woods foliage is generally more pronounced.

As always in photography, this is not an iron clad rule. Sometimes, an image taken under cloudy May convey a strong visual as well. For example, I like the one shown in the previous section. I shot another frame in the same place on a sunny day, and it was, I would say, trivial.

Buildings, especially with bright walls, look really good on the bottom of the dark, almost-black sky. Some people recommend for shooting IR cemeteries, as the topic goes well with the unreal atmosphere of the average - but, after all, how images cemetery can be done?
Do not limit yourself only to bright green and the dark sky. Even without these witnesses scenes of the infrared has a gradation of different shades of "normal" picture converted to B & W

10 Easy Steps to Shoot Infrared Film

Here's my quick and dirty guide.

1. Buy a roll of Kodak HIE infrared film because it gives results more free (usually a glowy, dreamy effect) than other types of films black and white infrared. You'll probably need to go to a camera store or a professional photo lab, like most consumers will not be required to wear the stuff or even know what it is.

2. Load the film in your camera in complete darkness or as close as you can. Do not open the plastic box, unless you're in total darkness! Be especially careful not to stick your finger through curtain of the camera while working in the dark. If you're outside during the day and can not find a dark, try going to a shady area and covering the camera with a leather jacket.

3. If the weather is good, set the ISO setting on your camera to 200. If it is less sunny try setting your camera to ISO 400, but try to shoot in sunny conditions - the photos will look better because there are more IR energy if it is cloudy. These settings worked perfectly for me on the EOS three I have already tried with HIE film - May they require some experimenting on your part if your camera's exposure meter differently.

4. Stick a red filter on your camera lens. (Wratten 25 red, R2 Tamron, Hoya 25A, etc.) If you do not, you lose much of the IR single aspect and you end up with a grainy photo regular black and white with bright reflections. Filters opaque light passing infrared energy can be used for IR remarkable pictures, but it is much more difficult to meter and focus to. I recommend starting with a red filter and pass IR filter with experience.

5. Focus normally. Do not adjust focus for IR, because the red filter lets in lots of natural light. You only need IR compensation focus if you use an IR filter that blocks all light or visible, or if you close up (macro) work, especially with a lens opening General.

6. The image will hopefully look okay photometer using the camera. But if there is a lot of energy bouncing around and then meter IR camera will be waived if the insurance try shooting a photo with the exposure settings recommended by the camera, then Bracket - take another photo 1 stop on the camera mounting and 1 stop under. If your camera has automatic exposure bracketing the easiest to achieve is to AEB BKT or your camera to 1 stop.

7. Take roll filled with your camera in total darkness as before. I recommend sticking the lid closed film canister as a reminder.

8. Take roll to a lab specializing in professional photography in black and white, after checking first that they know what to do with infrared film and that is something they handle regularly. Get 'em to process and print your film. (okay, so people with their own darkrooms will think that this step is cheating because it gives one of the most trouble-prone aspects of IR photography - treatment - to someone else. Well, it ' is true. But I do not have my own darkroom and do not want to spend money to try to make one.)

9. Choose the best impression (usually only one shot the three will really turn out) and hand-made custom printed enlargements. Or print some enlargements if you have access to a darkroom or darkroom facility rental. Machine-printed prints in black and white do not tend to be very good.

10. Show pictures and bask in the praise and admiration of your friends.

Getting Started with Infrared Photography

Infrared photography is like nothing else. I'm sure you saw photos IR around the web, but perhaps you do not know how to get this special effect? Look no further, here is a guide on what to consider when choosing your subject, how to shoot and what to do in post production.

Photography is the art of capturing light, infrared photography, the other is the art of capturing light invisible - but the challenge comes with its advantages, infrared photography can be really attention grabbing and d ' another world.

Getting-Started-with-Infrared-Photography

What you need?
First, you must have a D-SLR camera with a lens that can use filters. Then you need to buy a IR filter, there are a few there and the main difference (assuming that we are in the same brand) is the range of wavelengths that the filter misses.

The IR filter I use is the Hoya R72, RI all photos in this article are taken using the filter. I am very happy with this filter, but since it is the only one I tried I can not recommend it above any other.

Another piece of equipment that is crucial is the tripod. With digital SLRs, it is impossible to take IR photos without stabilizer appropriate. Of course, I guess you could have your camera on a table or a rock solid, but the best way is probably to get a good tripod. Since we use a slow shutter speed, long exposure, tripod to be very stable.

Infrared Photography

Infrared photography refers to the field of photography in which pictures are taken with a film sensitive to infrared light. In infrared photography, the filter allows only infrared wavelengths, and not the wavelength of visible colors to pass through and produce an image. Wavelengths of the visible color from 400 nm (nanometers) to 700 nm wavelength infrared range from 700 nm to 1200 nm. Most modern cameras have infrared control.

Although the pictures may show infrared images of every day in a new light, they can also highlight objects that are not usually visible to the naked eye.

Infrared-Photography
During the 1960s, infrared photography was especially popular in the designs of album covers musician. Jimi Hendrix was one of the most famous musicians who used psychedelic sensation of infrared photography to produce a hallucinogenic effect. However, professional photographers, as Elio Ciol have also used infrared photography for aesthetic effect subtle.

While people and animals can be subjects for infrared photography, urban landscapes are images made popular through a infrared lens. For example, top-down views that show the layout and infrastructure of the city are commonly shot in infrared setting. In most cases, infrared photography is a tool for professional photographers and scientists, rather than amateurs and hobbyists.
