A Clean Image Sensor - Digital Cameras

The image sensor in a digital camera must be kept clean of dust and other foreign matter in order for it to perform to its optimum level. Depending on the environment where you do most of your shooting, spots may appear on your images. Cleaning the sensor prior to every shoot will help you to minimize or eliminate such spots in your photos. While each camera manufacturer has different recommendations for cleaning the sensor, Canon digital cameras have a sensor-cleaning mode to which the camera can be set. With the camera’s reflex mirror up (a function of the cleaning-mode setting), the company recommends light air from an air syringe to gently remove any foreign matter. Turning the camera off resets the mirror.

The newest DSLR feature a sonic vibration sensor-cleaning mode that is fully automatic and does not involve you having to touch the sensor with a cleaning device. Digital SLR Camera Tips - Digital SLR Shooting Checklist

Below are some tips before photographed using a DSLR camera:

Check ISO Settings
The ISO speed plays a vital role in digital photography, it can actually take pictures of moving subjects or take pictures in low light conditions by changing the sensitivity of the sensor cameras. However it has one aisle over ISO, the more "noise" is visible on the final image. This is an effect of grain visible on the image. Thus, it is preferable to use as little as ISO setting as possible, although ISO higher are required to take certain types of photography such as sports.

Battery Charged?

SLR digital cameras are full battery charge, so if you find your battery is weak or, worse, dead, you will be heading home sooner than expected! Try to get used to charge your battery every time you use your camera. In this way, they will be ready for a moments notice. It's always a good idea to have a spare in your camera bag, so if you do, make sure it is fully charged.

Format Your Memory Card

Unless you've bought a memory card with a large capacity, it is a good idea to format your card every time before going out to take pictures. Formatting erases essentially clean card, removing all the old pictures if you like storage space as possible. But make sure you have safely transferred or print the images you want to keep before formatting, otherwise you will lose everything on the map!


Select The Correct File Type
Digital SLR allows you to select different file types to save your images. JPEG is the parameter most popular and we suggest you file format for amateurs and enthusiasts. Most digital cameras also give you a second option for setting the image size. This is normally small (S), medium (M) and large (L). This affects mainly the size at which the image can be printed, while preserving its quality. Be aware that larger images take up more space on your memory card.

Choosing The Right White Balance
There is a huge problem around the white balance and its artistic effects, but for now just be sure to select a white balance that is not completely inappropriate for your subject. It's a good idea (and often accurate) to let the camera choose the white balance, using the Auto white balance setting.

Feature Overload

Those people who are interested in photography would know by now of Canon and Nikon’s new cameras with video capture facility in it. From what I have been hearing and reading in the forums, many people are excited about the inclusion of video capture facility in still cameras. Perhpaps I am the only person, the odd one out, who is not too excited about it. Reminds me of feature overload.

Yahoo at one time was the king of search engines, and then as time got along it failed to keep up, the home page became too cluttered and slowly it lost it’s position which it is still trying to grab. In came Google with it’s simplistic and minimalistic search engine home page and it gained popularity at an alarming rate. Ok, the popularity had a lot to do with the search results, however the user interface and the features being offered and the way the were being offered had a large part to play in it.


Google can be a simple search engine and it can be a lot more if you want it to. My concern with cameras is the same. I am afraid that they are going down the line of ‘feature overload‘ to capture market share. Digital SLR technology is at a point where we can call it stable, and there are no major leaps in the near future in terms of technological advancement, hence the manufcturers are turning to these extra features to grab market share, I just hope that they don’t turn into Yahoo.

Digital SLR Cameras

SLR, which means single lens reflex refers to a type of device that uses a rotating mirror (either a pentaprism or pentamirror) which reflects the image that comes through the lens onto a screen development. Reflection mirror, the image appears in the eyepiece of the camera. The image does not touch the film after the focal plane shutter opens (when the photographer took the shot).

While digital SLR cameras give the photographer the advantage of watching the scene without distortion of parallax (the apparent movement of stationary objects when changes photographer position), they prevent the photographer to see his shot when the photo was taken.
